SASPGHAN is a non-profit professional organisation dedicated to improving paediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition care across Southern Africa. We are equally dedicated to fostering meaningful communication and collaboration among professionals in the field across the region.

Our Mission

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of children across Southern Africa by advancing the fields of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. We aim to:

Enhance Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition care across Southern Africa.

Promote continuous medical education by offering training at centres of excellence, developing and sharing clinical guidelines, and providing access to key resources.

Foster research, innovation, and collaboration within the Paediatric Gastroenterology community in the region.

Raise awareness and advocate for improved understanding and support for childhood intestinal and liver diseases.

Areas of Focus

Hepatology

Liver diseases in children, including biliary atresia, autoimmune hepatitis, and metabolic disorders.

Luminal Gastroenterology

Conditions such as Inflammatory bowel disease, allergic conditions of the GI tract, and functional gut disorders.

Nutrition

Supporting healthy growth, development, and management of paediatric nutritional disorders.

2025 SAGES Congress – 31 July to 3 August

The 2025 SAGES Congress, organised by the South African Gastroenterology Society (SAGES), is scheduled from July 31 to August 3, 2025, at the Coastlands Umhlanga Hotel and Convention Centre in Durban, South Africa. This annual event serves as a platform for healthcare professionals to engage in discussions, share knowledge, and explore advancements in gastroenterology. The congress will feature various sessions, exhibitions, and opportunities for professional development.

Paediatric coeliac disease day at the Cape Town Infusion Centre
